Telkom hosts international telecoms conference

Johannesburg, 20 Mar 2006

Telkom is hosting an international and operations conference to address issues in network management encountered by network operators.

Network operators from 19 countries are attending the five-day event, which started at the Sandton Convention Centre today. This is the first time the annual event is being hosted by an African country, says Telkom.

"This is a global conference that looks at challenges, solutions and best practices around the world in the network and service environment," says Pierre Marais, Telkom managing executive for network infrastructure provisioning.

"Key speakers include International Telecommunications Union (ITU) service and network operations chairperson Morris Flory, France Telecom director of research Prosper Chemouil and Telstra Australia head of network services Michael Lawrey.

"Telkom aims to encourage wider global participation with the ITU - telecommunications sector, in the identification, development and implementation of network and service management activities for operations," says Marais.

He says the sessions during the week are closed to the media but there might be a closing press briefing on Friday.
