Telkom Internet ups game

Johannesburg, 27 Aug 2012

Telkom has introduced changes to its consumer and business ADSL offering.

The fixed-line operator announced on Friday that it has made improvements to its TBiz Capped products. This follows the inception of ADSL performance upgrades, set to be rolled out progressively into September. Telkom's “Up to 384kbps” customers are being upgraded to “Up to 1 024kbps”, while those with the “Up to 1 024kbps” ADSL are now going to have “Up to 2 048kbps” speeds.

According to Telkom, its TBiz products now offer a range of enhanced features on the higher line speeds, “making them suitable to the higher-end business users”. The improvement has been applied across a range of bundles to include higher caps, upgrades to the Starter Business VAS (value-added services) packages and the addition of a specialised business VAS package.

Telkom launched the TBiz range in October 2011, to cater for the needs of business, especially small and medium firms.

According to Telkom, customers still have the option to create their own bundles from the range of line, Internet usage and VAS elements that are available. “Furthermore, Telkom Internet has improved the quality of its usage products, based on continuous evolution in the design of its ISP architecture. Customers will experience the benefits of this without effecting adjustments to their profiles.”

Steve Lewis, Telkom's managing executive of product house, says the improvements are part of an ongoing process and are a result of ISP architecture upgrades, together with feedback.

Lewis says another significant change the operator has instituted is account transition capability. “Customers can now move seamlessly between capped accounts, and even into uncapped usage accounts, without losing their credentials, e-mail accounts or Web-hosted .

“This removes the barrier to upgrade for our customers by allowing them to enjoy ISP services based on spend or how much of the Internet they wish to use,” concludes Lewis.
