Telkom has launched WebBill, an online presentment and payment platform that allows billing organisations to place customer invoices online.
Telkom senior product manager Theo van Zyl says WebBill is a platform that is integrated into a business` back-end system, allowing clients to view their invoices on the company`s Web site.
"The biller can implement either a 'push` model, in which the biller e-mails the invoice to the client, or a 'pull` model in which the client collects and pays their invoice on the biller`s Web site," says Van Zyl. "The two strategies can also be combined. Alternatively, the invoice can be delivered through electronic document interchange.
"When the invoice is sent via e-mail it can be encrypted, while customers retrieving their invoice from the Web site will have to do it through a secure login process. The customer can then choose how they want to pay the invoice."
Van Zyl says WebBill allows the bill recipient a hassle-free tool to receive, scrutinise, download and pay the account with no paperwork or standing in queues.
"Business-to-customer features include customisation of the bill, e-mail notification of new bills, overdue payments and special offers. From the business-to-business side, we also offer customised reports, bill summaries and targeted advertising to users," he says.
Telkom is already using WebBill to deliver Telkom accounts to corporate clients.
"Ease-e-Bill was launched in November last year and gives corporates the ability to view and pay their Telkom accounts online," Van Zyl says.
He adds that unlike other billing systems, WebBill is comprehensive, providing a hierarchical structure allowing individual users to view their accounts.
"WebBill allows every employee within a business to view and manage their own telephone account. Accounts can then also be viewed by department or as a single bill," he says.
Telkom`s online billing offering for small businesses and residential customers will be launched in the next few weeks, he says. Customers wanting to utilise the service can register at www.telkom.co.za.
