Telkom has entered into negotiations with MTN SA around a potential outsourcing of the operation of the Telkom radio access network to MTN, as well as a potential expansion of the roaming agreement between the two operators to include bilateral roaming.
Telkom made the announcement today and said, if successfully concluded, the negotiations could have a "material effect" on the price of Telkom's securities.
"Accordingly, shareholders are advised to exercise caution when dealing in Telkom's securities until a further announcement is made," said Telkom.
Eben Albertyn, chief technology officer of MTN in SA, confirmed the talks, calling them "normal business practice".
As these are on-going negotiations, said Albertyn, MTN will not comment any further on the matter until they are finalised.
Telkom also said it was not in a position to provide any additional details at this stage.
