Telkom reduces call rates to Cell C

Following a request from mobile operator Cell C, Telkom has agreed to reduce charges for standard time calls between its fixed-line network and Cell C`s mobile network.

The Independent Communications Authority of SA has approved the reduction as of 1 August and calls will be reduced by 6c for the first minute and 3c for the next 30 seconds.

The new rates are in line with the reduction of standard time fixed-to-mobile call charges to MTN and Vodacom - implemented on 1 July 2003 - and only apply to calls made on weekdays between 7am and 8pm.

In cash terms, this means that calls from Telkom to Cell C will cost R1.82 for the first 60 seconds, and 91c for the next 30 seconds.

Nombulelo Moholi, Telkom`s chief sales and marketing officer, says that in terms of the interconnection agreements between Telkom and the mobile operators, Telkom`s retention charge for fixed-to-mobile calls remained unaffected by the reductions.
