In a statement released today, the fixed-line giant notes the South African fixed market is experiencing exponential growth in usage, and says it expects that this demand will continue to climb in the coming years.

To this end, the company has commenced a network investment and transformation programme focused on increasing fixed broadband access speeds.

According to the statement, this is evidenced by Telkom's launch of 20 and 40 Mbit/s VDSL services and the increased rate of deployment of the Multi-Service Access Node units across the country that enable these services.

"Telkom endeavours to dynamically capacitate the fixed broadband eco-system ahead of expected demand, including but not limited to port capacity, backhaul to fixed broadband nodes and Telkom's IP network," says the statement.

The company notes that this decision is independent of the stipulations in its settlement agreement with the Competition Commission. It says it remains committed to the implementations of the agreement and announcements in this regard will be made in due course.
