Telkom`s cordless phones are approved by ICASA

Telkom customers will be relieved to know that their cordless Symphony telephones purchased from Telkom are not affected by a recent prohibition of certain cordless telephones by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).

ICASA published a general notice in the Government Gazette on 3 November this year, prohibiting the use of certain CT1 cordless telephones after 31 December 2000. These telephones operate in the 914 to 915 MHz and 959 to 960 MHz frequency bands, while Telkom`s cordless Symphony telephone uses Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) technology and is not affected by ICASA`s prohibition.

Like all of Telkom`s phone instruments, the Telkom Symphony cordless telephone is ICASA-approved. It has been available for over a year, and DECT technology is acknowledged as the best cordless telephone technology anywhere in the world, giving crystal clear and superior speech reception from a 50 meter to 300 meter range. The phone is Caller Line Identification (CLI) compatible, and has a 76 phone number memory.
