Tenders issued and processed by the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) are being attributed to other state entities in the National Tender Bulletin. SITA's involvement is often revealed in the contacts listing; however, some notices are devoid of any indication whatsoever. The public sector can buy its technology directly from the market through its internal supply chain management departments or it can contract SITA to take over the procurement process. SITA, in turn, issues its own tender and negotiates with the private sector to meet the requirements.
A notice in this week's Bulletin stating that the Department of Home Affairs has cancelled a tender for V-SAT technology is misleading. The tender in question was issued by SITA , looking to procure for DHA. Similarly, Datacentrix's new R30 million contract to provide information security services to the South African Police Service was actually awarded by SITA.
