Textbooks available on iPhone

A provider of subscription e-textbooks for college students is making its 7 000-plus titles accessible on Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch as interest heats up in the digital-textbook arena, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The applications, free for subscribers to CourseSmart, will let students access their full electronic textbooks, read their notes and search for specific words and phrases.

"Nobody is going to use their iPhone to do their homework, but this does provide real mobile learning," said Frank Lyman, CourseSmart's executive vice-president. "If you're in a study group and you have a question, you can immediately access your text."

MS to train Nigeria teachers

Microsoft has signed a 'Partner in Learning' memorandum of understanding with Nigeria's ministry of in a resolve to expand its corporate social responsibility activities in Nigeria, states AfricaNews.

The agreement is aimed at training teachers from all levels of education to deliver up-to-date digital literacy and technology curricula in schools across the country.

“This agreement will create a learning community of teachers who are able to deliver the studies through effective ICT training to other teachers and students” stated Hajia Aisha Dukku, Nigeria minister of state for education.

New Vision intros SofTutor

New Vision Software has introduced SofTutor, a tool that encourages children to learn through interactive videos, states TMCnet

According to the company, the new tool makes learning more interesting than the traditional text-based e-learning or distance education.

With the help of either proprietary content or publicly available electronic content, SofTutor empowers teachers, subject matter experts and users to create custom integrated training and technical support quickly, easily and economically.
