Thawte Technologies, the second largest digital trust service company worldwide, has announced the launch of its fourth Crypto Challenge competition and Lunch Hour Challenge campaign. These campaigns are aimed at cryptography hobbyists of all levels: from beginners wanting to learn, to experts looking for a challenge.
The Crypto Challenge is a fun, on-going competition aimed at Cipher hobbyists able to crack level 3 - 4 of Simon Singh`s Cipher Challenge1. The mysterious cipher genius Mr X develops the Crypto Challenges to be cracked. The first person to crack the code, wins the main prize - a Nikon Cool Pix SQ digital camera - and there are runner-up prizes too.
The Lunch Hour Challenge is a recent addition to the Crypto Challenge, developed for people interested in cryptography but still learning, and experts that enjoy the hobby but do not have the time to decrypt a difficult cipher. This challenge is purely for the fun of it - there are no prizes and no rules.
The Crypto Challenge and Lunch Hour Challenge sites have a log of past challenges, the winners, solutions and pieces of interesting information surrounding cryptography and its development.
Melanie Reed, marketing co-ordinator of Thawte Technologies, says: "We want to build sustainable, on-going relationships with our customers and like-minded people, as well as add to the Thawte brand personality. The Crypto Challenge is a perfect fit for Thawte: we sell digital certificates, which enable encryption and provide online authentication. The bulk of our target market enjoys puzzles, anything technical or to do with IT; this is a fun way of interacting with them and giving them the recognition they deserve."
