MTN SA has thrown its weight behind the 4th South African Aids Conference by injecting more than R500 000 in financial and other resources into this global spectacle. The conference will be held at the iNkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre [ICC] in Durban from the 31 March to 3 April.
In 2007, the event attracted more than 4700 delegates who included 700 international delegates and 200 members of the media - an unequivocal indication of how grand the event has grown over the years.
Through the MTN Foundation, our company is involved and will continue to be involved through various initiatives in the fight against HIV/Aids and other related diseases.
“Our actions today will have far-reaching effects on generations that will come after our generation as these will determine what legacy we will leave behind,” said MTN Foundation head Eunice Maluleke.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, the MTN Foundation will continue to assist to deal with the plight and the challenges faced by the people of this country. The HIV/Aids pandemic will continue to be a challenge for generations to come but what will count is what it is that we will do in our lifetime to make an everlasting difference,” she added.
Maluleke said MTN SA's involvement generally and the MTN Foundation's involvement specifically is in line with the company's brand strategy of getting involved with projects that benefits communities within which the company operates.
“Our involvement is not just about writing a five figure or a six figure cheque and turning our backs on the organisations and individuals we assist but it is about building partnerships as well as getting our own staff members involved as well in these initiatives as, whether or not we like it, HIV and Aids affects us, directly or indirectly.
