Wrath Unleashed is a story dealing with the age-old struggle of good versus evil. This time you are fighting for the Throne of Gaia, to become the lord and ruler of the magical floating islands of the Shattered Realms.
The best way to describe Wrath Unleashed is to think of this turn-based, action-strategy title as Battle Chess meeting Mortal Combat set in a world of Magic & Strategy.
You play one of the four Overlords:
* Epothos, the Light Chaos Demigod of the Element Fire
* Aenna, the Light Order Demigoddess of the Element Water
* Helamis, the Dark Chaos Demigoddess of the Element Wind
* Durlock, the Dark Order Demigod of the Element Earth
Each side takes turns moving their creatures around on a hexagonal tiled map. You need to gain land, acquire Mana mats to increase your magic and temples. The first player to capture and hold a certain number of temples or defeat the opposing demigod wins.
If two opposing creatures meet on the same piece of land, battle will commence and the game will switch to a fighting arena.
This was definitely the best part of the game for me. Naturally enough, stronger creatures have more health and can do more damage. Attack and defence bonuses are given to creatures that share that land`s element type, which from a strategic point of view can sway the outcome of the battle.
However, the battlefield is not the only place where you will be strategising. The world map also requires you to plan where your creature should move and where to go.
The top-down view of the map makes planning strategy easier, as you can view the complete map in 2D as well as spin it around to get a better view of where you can move next.
By selecting a creature, the hexagonal tiled map will highlight how far out the creature can move.
Graphically, the game is breathtaking. Unfortunately, there are long loading times before and after the battle sequences.
This game would have sold me if it only had a battle map editor. I am sure this title will become extremely dull if you have to keep fighting on the same map. Having said that, if you have lots of friends, this is still a fun game to play.
