Unisys Corporation today announced a consulting agreement with The Irish Times, one of the highest circulation daily newspapers in Ireland. Unisys will provide change management consulting services to support the newspaper`s transition to a new organizational structure. The redesign of internal workflows and processes will allow The Irish Times to maximize benefits from planned technologies and editorial systems.
Since The Irish Times operates with legacy systems, often articles must be manually selected and pasted onto the page. This non-digital process strongly affects the efficiency and productivity of the entire organization, often resulting in production delays. The Irish Times was reluctant to introduce new editorial systems without first redefining all its daily work practices. Thus, the newspaper turned to Unisys to support the company in its transformation from a traditional newspaper organization to a multimedia one, structured as a network and no longer as non-related, disparate departments.
In a two-phase project, Unisys will help The Irish Times evolve and adapt to the new market trends: Unisys offers in-depth knowledge of editorial products, combined with high quality consulting services and domain expertise. The whole project will last about eight months, and is based on an exhaustive and well-balanced plan, addressing all the key areas of the organization: its strategy, its business processes, its issues, the technology in use, the human resources management and the company culture.
The main aim will be to identify and coherently describe the benefits derived from the implementation of a modern and multi-functional publishing system.
Philip Heath, Director - Sales & Services - Unisys Publishing, stated, "The Change Management consultants work side-by-side with other Unisys specialists and with the clients` counterparts with a constant attention to ensure clients leverage the maximum benefit from new technologies, help them build their own change capability and...make things happen. We are really looking forward to working with The Irish Times on this challenging and innovative project."
With this unique agreement, based for the first time in Unisys e-@ction Publishing Solutions` history on the sole provision of consulting services, the company has reinforced its leadership in the editorial industry. It has proven an extraordinary capability to meet and adapt to the new market requirements, enhancing its offer from the mere supply of editorial products to an all-round offer, inclusive of specific and high-level consulting services.
