Financial services company The Marriott Group has upgraded its server system, purchasing an IBMNetfinity 5500 to run its Unit Trust and Banking systems.
"The expansion in the number of portfolios managed and the success of our equity and property equity unit trusts has necessitated increasing our processing capacity. We have replaced a Compaq server with the IBM Netfinity 5500; we chose IBM due to its excellent reputation for after sales and support," says Simon Spencer, director: group information systems at Marriott.
"The Netfinity was chosen for its fault tolerance and availability of support. A new system was commissioned due to the expansion of our client base. We are now one of the top ranking asset management companies in the country, managing other companies unit trusts and provident funds as well as our own," explains Spencer.
"The systems are being migrated from the current SCO/PICK/Compaq solution to the Netfinity 5500 and will be completed by April this year."
In addition to the Netfinity 5500, Marriott also utilised a Netfinity 3500.
"This server is used to provide efficient and secure internet access to around 200 users," says Spencer.
"The Netfinity servers bring a level of fault-tolerance to our company that allows us to provide a reliable service to our clients. The speed and capacities of the Netfinity 5500 will allow us to meet the needs of our rapidly expanding client-base," concludes Spencer.
