Thin Client Technologies t/a IT Wise, sole distributors for Wyse Technology and Packeteer in southern Africa, will display the latest Wyse Winterm 3200LE, the 8360SE Custom Application Terminal as well as Packeteer`s next generation PacketShaper platforms, Series 1500, 2500 and 4500 at the Simplicity 2000 Server-based Computing Conference.
The one-day conference tales place on 25 July at Vodaworld, Midrand.
Says Arno`t van Heerden, Sales Director for IT Wise: " Thin-client computing technology from Wyse now offers a series of thin clients designed to deliver services from application service providers (ASPs). The Modular Winterm 3200LE, which will be on display at Simplicity, is the thinnest terminal yet, and is ideal for users in a LAN environment. With its tiny footprint, it is easily concealed - attached to the back of a flat screen monitor, it provides a super slim solution."
"Technically, it sets new standards for Windows-based terminals, connecting seamlessly to Windows 2000, using Terminal Services and Citrix MetaFrame. The Winterm 3200LE brings increased flexibility, productivity, security and longevity to organisations seeking the thinnest approach to desktop and IT management. According to Wyse, the terminals are being positioned as competitive alternative low-cost PCs." explains van Heerden.
Wyse also recently released the 8360SE Custom Application Terminal (WinCat), which comes embedded with NT 4.0 and Internet browser capabilities, and can be customised to embed 32-bit Windows applications.
Says Jeff McNaught, vice-president of marketing at Wyse: "WinCat is for Fortune 1000 customers looking for application flexibility. The customers gives us the install media, and we turn the application into a component that we, the reseller of the customer can add to the unit."
"Wyse plans to introduce other thin clients aimed at increasing corporate flexibility. These include a Windows-based terminal with a browser capability and an entry-level WinCat without a browser. By year-end, Wyse also plans to build its first Internet appliance. These will be delivered through ASPs," explains McNaught.
The series will be designed for both commercial and consumer applications and includes capabilities for Web browsing and video on demand. It could also be used for applications from ASPs such as word processors, spreadsheets and picture editors.
Jeff concludes that you can simply plug it into the network, power it up and get the application from the ASP.
