The Notebook Company auctions off R500 000 worth of notebooks

Leading notebook retailer, The Notebook Company, recently auctioned off what is believed to be to the most laptops auctioned over the Internet in SA in just one week. During one week in October the company sold R500 000 worth of laptops on www.auction.co.za.

Christopher Riley, general manager of The Notebook Company, said there was no reserve price on any items, with bidding starting at R1. "We viewed the exercise as more of a publicity drive, or brand-building. In that regard it was a great success." He said while the auction did not generate profits, profit-making had not being the main intention.

The company intends to auction off demonstration and unclaimed repair units in a similar auction during November. "None of the products will have reserve prices. We see this as a way of building a reputation on the Web as a leading provider of brand-name laptops."

The Notebook Company, which also rents out laptops, supplies the marketplace with a wide range of brand-name laptops, including IBM, Compaq, Toshiba, Mecer and Acer.
