National notebook and accessories retailer, The Notebook Company, has signed an alliance with PC inventory management and PC theft control company, Asset Dynamics, which will see the company offering its clients a Web-based PC and notebook tracking and theft recovery system.
Christopher Riley, CEO of The Notebook Company, said the company is now in a position to offer its client base "total peace of mind" when it comes to their investment in laptops - which are often a high theft risk.
"Once the tracing system is loaded with a client, if his PC or laptop is stolen we are able to trace the stolen unit via the Internet using specialised software from Asset Dynamics - as 85% of all PCs and notebooks link to the Net. Where the tracking service has been installed," he said, "there has been as much as a 90% decrease in the incidence of theft." At a fee of R35 per month, Riley said the service is "a steal".
Thanks to its agreement with Asset Dynamics, The Notebook Company is also able to offer its clients a competitive insurance product, specifically designed for the notebook market. Clients can make use of a special rate if the company`s tracking service is installed.
An alliance has also been formed between Asset Dynamics and crimestop.co.za, a free-to-market Web site set up and sponsored by The Notebook Company which lists stolen property. In terms of the alliance, any stolen product will also be listed on crimestop.co.za.
Riley said the solutions have been rolled out across the company`s "entire rental pool" as well.
