The Notebook Company, one of SA`s leading laptop retailers, is to offer its clients free off-site backups via the Internet as part its ongoing move to provide "additional after-sales value".
The company, which sells a wide range of brand-name laptop computers, including Compaq, IBM, Toshiba, Acer and Mecer, said take-up of the new offer - launched in October last year - had been good.
Christopher Riley, general manager of The Notebook Company, said users can connect to the company`s web-site, www.notebook.co.za and, by "literally pushing a button", back up data off-site. The service will be free for clients for a six-month period.
"Lots of companies keep back-ups on-site, which can be dangerous in the event of occurrences such as theft or damage by fire. It is important to ensure that back-ups, or additional back-ups, are housed off-site."
The company plans to assess the "level of take-on" by clients after six months. "If viable, we will continue with this value-added offering, but will offer it a extremely aggressive prices." Riley said the service is part of the company`s aim to provide "an additional basket of value-added services" to its clients.
