The Computer Society of South Africa (CSSA) is proud to announce the 30th annual IT Personality of the Year awards to be held at Montecasino ballroom on Wednesday, 5 November 2008.
Presented by the CSSA, in association with ITWeb, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and Gartner Africa, the title is currently held by Hamilton Ratshefola, CEO of Cornastone.
The evening unfolds in splendour as the ICT industry 'movers and shakers' take a few hours out of their busy schedules to honour those individuals who have excelled and achieved throughout the course of the year. It is an evening of reflection when we look back at the ICT developments over the past year and look forward to the year ahead.
In acknowledging those who have contributed for 30 years or more to the ICT industry, the 2008 CSSA President's Awards Banquet is again expected to attract a capacity audience for the presentation of the most prestigious awards in the ICT industry, by the Computer Society in partnership with the leading ICT media publications in South Africa. This year sees the addition of two new awards, namely ICT Visionary of the Year and the IT Leading Employer of the Year.
"While IT Personality recognises a well-known individual, often from an IT vendor company, ICT Visionary affords recognition to those who drive ICT strategy in user environments - forward-thinking CIOs, strategists, IT directors or whatever the job title - who help change the shape of business by implementing innovative technology solutions," says Adrian Schofield, CSSA president.
The awards include the coveted IT Personality of the Year, which is awarded to an individual who has made a significant technical or academic contribution to the IT industry or a professional who has aided the developmental needs of the community over a number of years, and The Fellowship Award, which honours an individual's continuous contribution towards ICT industry through the course of their career. For the first time also, CSSA, in conjunction with TalentAlign IT, will present the IT Leading Employer of the Year Award to an organisation that cares for its employees and demonstrates strong employee engagement principles.
Computer Society South Africa (CSSA), the industry body for IT professionals, first awarded the industry's top accolade in 1979 to Louis Rive. Most recent winners of the prestigious IT Personality award include well-known figures in the industry such as Anthony Fitzhenry, CEO of Axiz; Mthunzi Mdwaba, former executive chairman of Torque-IT; and Benjamin Mophatlane, CEO of Business Connexion. The CSSA is playing an increasingly pivotal role in leading the development and implementation of world-class standards for the IT profession through innovative products, services and support. Through its specific "Professionalism in IT" programme (CPEP), CSSA is leading and building IT professionalism.
MC for the evening, Talk Radio 702's Aki Anastasiou, joins a variety of other entertainment delights, including live music, dancing and excellent cuisine. Aki is best known for getting you to work safe and sound every weekday morning with his traffic reports. He also presents the Technobyte feature on David O'Sullivan's show and describes himself as being passionate about technology.
In partnership with ITWeb, GIBS Business School, Gartner Africa, Computing SA and TalentAlign IT, this evening will once again be the highlight of the IT year.
