Three-D set to break into e-commerce with Novell and IBM

Johannesburg, 03 May 2000

IT integration company Three-D Computer Services, an MB Worksoft company, is set to make major inroads into the e-commerce market by providing essential infrastructural services to customers through forming strategic alliances with Novell and IBM.

Durban-based Three-D recently announced its appointment as an IBM e-business partner and as a Novell Support Partner (NSP).

Mary Harding, MD at Three-D, says Novell`s partnership with IBM and Three D`s relationship with the two companies positions it as the only company to offer their combined infrastructure.

In terms of Novell`s agreement with IBM, it is bundling the WebSphere e-commerce solution free of charge with NetWare 5.1.

"Three-D is a support-focused organisation and our strengths and technical expertise are directed at integration," says Harding.

"E-commerce technology is essentially about integration to legacy systems and transforming them to be Web-enabled. Our decision to become an IBM e-business partner has been reinforced with Novell`s partnership with IBM to bundle WebSphere free with NetWare 5.1."

Manoj Bhoola, Novell services manager, says Novell`s agreement with IBM is the first of many partnerships Novell will be striking whereby it is bringing its electronic directory and IBM`s e-business together as a holistic e-commerce solution.

"The industry has recognised the strengths of IBM`s leading position in the e-commerce solutions market while Novell`s electronic directory leads the industry in this respect.

"It`s encouraging to see that Three-D in KZN has been appointed as an IBM Business Partner and our partnership with Three-D as an NSP will further strengthen that position in this massive growth area," says Bhoola.

He adds that as a focused support organisation, Three-D has been instrumental in reaching many of KZN`s leading businesses and the strategic partnership approaches it has taken will allow the company to use leading products in its e-commerce strategies.

Harding points out that the great difference between relationships in electronic form and current business relationships is the amount of information a company has on its customers, partners and suppliers. Using that information, products and services can be developed and deployed on a highly individual and highly personalised basis.

"E-business networks must support connections to the people, groups, organisations and communities with which an organisation does business. Enterprise intranets and extranets will converge to create a dynamic, relationship-driven system, and it is here that Three-D has the skills and expertise nationwide to provide solutions," says Harding.
