Tigo's new high-speed mobile broadband network has been designed to provide Tanzanians with fast and reliable access to the Internet. By partnering with Ericsson to design and build the new network and upgrade the existing 2G network to HSPA, Tigo has the capacity to deliver a superior customer experience, leveraging cutting-edge technology. This will enable people to enjoy an exciting array of data, mobile broadband and multimedia services.
Marcelo Aleman, Chief Executive Officer, Tigo Tanzania, says: “Tigo is the first consumer-centric organisation in Tanzania and thus we want to address the Internet needs of all consumers by providing an Internet package that delivers what each person wants. Depending on the consumer's needs and habits while browsing, Tigo Internet offers a plan with varying speeds and durations. By giving the consumer the option to decide, Tigo is delivering great value with innovative products that address everybody's needs. Tigo Internet will provide Tanzanian customers a world-class, reliable and affordable Internet service on the brand new networks Tigo has built just for them.”
Aleman adds: “This technology makes accessing the Internet an amazing experience. Not only do people have access to an incredibly reliable Internet service, they get it at an affordable price, depending on their specific needs. And its potential has only just started to emerge in Tanzania. We believe the vast majority of Tanzanians will own an Internet-enabled modem or phone with a reliable Tigo Internet connection in the near future, and we are preparing to deliver an excellent quality service at a great price to each and every one of them.”
Lars Linden, Head of Ericsson's Region sub-Saharan African, Ericsson, says: "We continue shaping the future of mobile communication and broadband in Africa. Through our longstanding relationship with Tigo, we work together to meet the demands of a rapidly changing market, supporting the introduction of new consumer and business services.”
As the sole supplier for the core and radio technology, Ericsson has delivered a complete WCDMA/HSPA network. The company also provided systems integration, design, implementation and support services. Ericsson's HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) provides fast data transmission speeds in uplink and downlink. It also boosts network capacity and lowers response times for interactive services. Ericsson's unique dual access packet core allows smooth and efficient introduction of high-speed HSPA services through software upgrade of the existing GSM core network.
