Top 50 'cloud innovators' named
The list is meant to promote GigaOM's annual Structure conference, which will once again bring together some of the biggest names in sky-high computing, but the inaugural Structure 50 is, nonetheless, a welcome overview of this increasingly influential field.
The list includes many of the names one would expect - such as Amazon, Google, Dell, and Microsoft - but also many players still operating below the proverbial radar, including virtual networking outfit Nicira and network monitoring company Boundary Networks.
Selected through a rigorous review by GigaOM editors, the Structure 50 companies encompass a wide range of innovators - from rising stars like DotCloud and Nimbula, to industry leaders such as Akamai, Cisco, and Apple, reveals the Sacramento BEE.
A full list of winners can be found on the Structure 50 Web site. “The companies in the Structure 50 are changing the face of computing.
“Editors at GigaOM reviewed hundreds of companies to select these top 50 cloud computing innovators based on their product innovation, market impact, technology development, and visionary leadership,” says Derrick Harris, GigaOM Structure Editor and Conference Chair.
“The inaugural Structure 50 list recognises the enormous contribution these leading companies are making to business, technology, and society.”

Just like that, the concept of on-demand, programmable infrastructure that could be accessed over the Internet became a reality.
