This year, Tel.Com Africa 2002, the largest event of its kind in Africa, has drawn overwhelming support from the key players in the telecommunications industry. Top representatives from both fixed-line and cellular operators will discuss their future plans and strategies at the conference and exhibition to be held on 23 to 25 October at the Sandton Convention Centre.
Communications minister Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri will open the conference, followed by presentations from Telkom`s CEO, Sizwe Nxasana, and Dr Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane, CEO of Sentech as well as Dr Angus Hay from Transtel who will discuss the issuing of a second network operator licence. An overview of the cellular market will conclude the first day`s opening plenary with Robert Pasley of Vodacom; MTN South Africa`s Carl Pienaar; and Norman Ober of Cell C, all sharing their views and ideas for the future.
The programme for the following two days is split into three tracks maximising the number of topics discussed and delegates` areas of interest. Both international and local speakers will present on a number of pertinent issues facing Africa`s changing telecommunications climate.
"Several new innovations are planned to make this year`s event more far reaching and influential than previous years," says conference chairman, Peter Davies. "The Swedish Trade Council will be present, helping to bring a strong delegation from the mobile and wireless industry in Sweden, the ISETT SETA is hosting a Skills Development Forum and Youth Summit, and deals have been made with various publishers to promote the event extensively not only in SA but also the rest of Africa and the Middle East."
The event is aimed at anyone in the field of telecommunications, be it operators, suppliers, businessmen or policymakers. Full programme details can be found at www.teldotcom.org.za or contact the organisers on (021) 914-2888 for more information.
