Toshiba extends free recycling programme
The Digital Products Division of Toshiba America Information Systems (TAIS) has extended its free recycling programme, beyond laptops, to include most common consumer electronics, says TMCnet.
Jeff Barney, GM and VP of Digital Products Division, says: “The growth of Toshiba's free recycling programme is a reflection of the company's dedication to promoting responsible disposal of hazardous waste.
“Recycling items regardless of the manufacturer is a natural step for Toshiba, considering the value we place on environmental responsibility.”
Technology key to SMEs' green strategy
According to KRC Research, 63% of small-to-midsize companies employing green technologies are saving $19 200 on average, says Info World.
During a survey among IT decision-makers at 250 small businesses (those with fewer than 50 employees), 69% said having environmentally friendly practices was important to their businesses.
As to the reasons for adopting green practices, 44% said they were embracing sustainability for the good of the planet and the same cumulative percentage cited business reasons such as reducing costs and improving brand perception.
IMEC, Taiyo Nippon Sanso develop green tech
IMEC and Taiyo Nippon Sanso have entered into an agreement to develop the manufacturing technology for high efficiency light-emitting diode (LED) devices, reports TMCnet.
This is the first collaboration made by TNSC with a Europe-based advanced research centre.
The companies say they recognise the increasing demands for the development of brighter green LEDs that can be applied in the coming generations as the back light for high vision liquid crystal display televisions.
