As the world becomes more and more aware about environmental issues, it is increasingly important for brands to develop eco-friendly products and solutions.
This is according to Santosh Varghese, GM for digital products and services at Toshiba Gulf.
Varghese notes that Toshiba is currently adopting strategies to reduce the environmental impact that results from the manufacturing of its products. The brand is also attempting to reduce the environmental impact caused throughout the life cycle of its products.
"Toshiba is focusing on the creation of products with high levels of environmental performance," says Varghese. By default, the notebook PC is more energy-efficient than the desktop PC. Today, portability has become an essential concept in notebook PCs. The lighter and more compact the laptop is, the more desirable it is for consumers." As such, Toshiba has utilised magnesium alloy to create lightweight offerings that are convenient for users and reduce the materials required during the manufacturing process.
Another area of focus for the brand is to improve product durability, says Varghese, since a lengthened product life reduces the need for the production of additional materials.
To ensure the durability of its notebook PCs, the Toshiba PC Health Monitor and the Toshiba Eco Utility was designed to detect potential problems before they occur and aims to prevent product failure, says Varghese. "Toshiba PC Health Monitor tracks battery performance, warns the user if the machine may be overheating, and protects the hard drive from sudden shocks," he says, adding that the monitor generates a graphical overview of laptop temperature, fan speed and battery condition.
According to Varghese, the brand's Eco Utility feature is a pre-configured power plan designed to encourage the user to save power. "Further, this innovative feature makes it simple to monitor daily, weekly and monthly power usage. It also reveals the energy savings and the reduction in CO2emissions when using the Eco mode." This feature allows the user to manage power consumption, extend battery life and reduce environmental impact," he points out.
For Toshiba, the push towards energy-efficient products is part of its recognition that natural resources are finite. Thus, the brand aims to implement environmental measures that promote sustainable products and business processes.
