Toshiba offers HD microscopy

Toshiba Imaging Systems Division is partnering with Olympus Canada to offer a new tool for clinical pathology and teaching - the High Definition Synergy-HD Microscope Imaging System, says photonics.com.

After testing and evaluating a number of systems, Olympus chose to integrate Toshiba's new ultra compact IK-HD1 3CCD HDTV camera with its line of clinical microscopes that feature objectives and optics suited for imaging.

The system, which includes a high definition, wide screen 42- or 47-inch 1080p LCD monitor, delivers video imagery in real-time, displaying the entire slide at all ROIs and magnifications. Toshiba's camera and proprietary three-chip prism block technology offers 1 920 x 1 080 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second with superb colour reproduction, contrast and image detail without binning, image jitter or video lag.

Cheaper displays from LG?

LG Display has developed what it says is the world's first TFT roll-printing technology that can replace the photolithography process, states Smarthouse.

Photolithography is a process used in TFT-LCD fabrication to form patterns on the TFT and colour filter substrate and involves a complex set of processes that requires huge and costly equipment.

However, using this new roll-printing technology instead of photolithography, the complex set of processes used to form the required patterns can proceed at once.

Barco sues Aydin

Imaging technology group Barco said it and its unit, Barco Federal Systems, have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Aydin Displays in the federal district court in Atlanta, United States, reports Forbes.com.

The case involves two US patents held by Barco pertaining to LCD flicker compensation. The flicker compensation technology in these patents, which was developed by Barco engineers, is important in military applications, particularly sonar.

The complaint charges Aydin with selling LCD displays that include the flicker compensation technology that is patented by Barco and 'licensed exclusively' to Barco Federal Systems located in Duluth, Georgia. The complaint seeks damages and an injunction barring Aydin from further sales of the infringing displays.
