Toshiba takes on iPad
Toshiba is gearing up to take on the iPad by developing its own line of tablet computers, reports ZDNet.
Toshiba's head of US notebook business, Jeff Barney, says that innovation and development of the tablet market is essential to grow the industry.
Toshiba's tablet PCs are expected to be rolled out early in 2011.
AT&T drives converged devices
AT&T has revealed a line-up of quick messaging devices to offer consumer data services intended to enhance messaging, video and photo sharing, states TMCnet.
AT&T says the devices bridge the socioeconomic divide by bringing a 'smartphone-like' experience to a wider range of gadgets.
“Quick messaging devices are among our most popular and fastest-growing phones,” says David Christopher, chief marketing officer of AT&T mobility and consumer markets.
Converged centre criticised
IT market research firm Gartner has warned against the common assumption that a single converged data centre network is necessarily the efficient way to go, says Data Center Dynamics.
The company says its research has shown a converged network actually requires more switches and ports, is harder to manage, and consumes more power and cooling than two well-designed separate networks.
Gartner research VP Joe Skorupa says: “A single converged network actually uses more ports than a separate local area network and storage area network. Additionally, since more equipment is required, maintenance and support costs are unlikely to be reduced.”
