Toshiba to show working tablet

Computing company Toshiba reports it will show a working tablet PC during the International CES, which it plans to ship during the first half of 2011, reveals Twice.

The as-yet-unnamed tablet will use the Android Honeycomb operating system and it will be powered by Nvidia's Tegra 2 dual core processor with integrated graphics. The first version will be -only, but the company is looking at other options.

The tablet will have a 10.1-inch multi-touch LED display with 1 200 by 800 resolution. The screen is adaptive and can adjust to different lighting situations. It will weigh about 1.7 pounds.

Intel avails solid-state drives

Intel has unveiled a new set of mini-sized solid-state drives (SSDs) for dual-drive notebooks, tablet PCs and embedded applications that the company claims provide performance as high as its larger SSDs, reports eWeek.

The 310 Series drives are sized at 51mm by 30mm and 5mm thick, about one-eighth the size of what an Intel 2.5-inch X25 flash SSD is presently, yet they can hold up to 80GB of .

The new drives contain 34-nanometer Intel Nand flash memory chips and are available in an m-SATA form factor in 40GB and 80GB capacities. The 310 Series also support SATA connectivity over a Express mini-connector for on-board storage in single-drive netbooks, tablets or handheld devices.

Desktop PC prices to drop 13%

Market intelligence and IT advisory services firm IDC says the overall average selling price of desktop PCs may drop by about 13% in 2011, whereas the notebook PC prices may go down by about 5%, writes Cyber Media.

The research firm, in its latest report, 'India PC Market: Review of 2010, Forecast for 2011', says the adoption of a notebook PC as the first PC is likely to show growth in 2011, but overall notebook PC shipments are likely to stay lower than desktop PC shipments.

Looking back at India's PC market sales for the first three quarters of calendar year 2010, IDC says the PC shipments for this period touched 7.4 million pieces, leading to a year-on-year growth of 31%.
