Software development company Traktion has initiated a management buyout from MB Worksoft together with former SAP consultancy Boundless Solutions, to form an enterprise application company trading as DMK.
After protracted dealings with MB Worksoft, which held a minority shareholding in Traktion, all its staff members as well as its existing clients have left the fold to begin a new company together with Boundless.
The details of the deal are closely guarded, with Traktion management signing non-disclosure agreements with Worksoft as to the value and terms of the deal.
According to management, DMK will develop, implement and support a business process-driven enterprise application suite. It will target small to medium companies in the retail, wholesale, distribution and import/export market sectors.
Andre de Meyer, technical director of DMK, says: "MB Worksoft is divesting itself of smaller and non-core operations as part of its restructuring plan. This gave us the opportunity to buy out the company together with Boundless Solutions.
"Boundless is a services business. It forms a good fit with our business and culture, has a strong track record in enterprise software projects, and has the financial security that will help to turn our company into a significant player in its chosen niche of the software market," says De Meyer.
The new company`s product, also named DMK, is an integrated application suite that embraces functionality for financials, reporting, warehousing, point-of-sale and cataloguing.
"The suite was developed with the specific goal of addressing the shortcomings of ERP applications. Because ERP systems are transactional in nature, they do not readily lend themselves to providing companies with operational and strategic decision-making operations," explains De Meyer.
"We can roll-out the system in six to eight weeks," he says. "The suite, which was developed in the Delphi environment, represents more than four years of development and contains more than 6 000 business rules. It runs on Windows NT and SQL Server."
DMK`s existing customer base includes ProTouch, Supreme Wholesalers, Just Chicken and Reebok.
