TranXactive WAP-enables Computer Faire 2000

This year`s Computer Faire 2000 event held at Gallagher Estate, Johannesburg has been WAP-enabled by TranXactive. WAP-enabled visitors to the Faire can tour the halls using their WAP phones like the Nokia 7110 and the Ericsson R320s.

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is a protocol standard that provides Internet access for small hand-held devices, such as mobile phones and personal digital assistants via a mini-browser built into the unit. The Computer Faire WAP application was built by TranXactive (http://www.TranXactive.com) and features a drill-down directory of exhibitors, an exhibitor search engine and general information on the faire itself. Users can also view the latest Faire bulletins with the latest events and specials while roving the faire.

The Computer Faire WAP application is accessible via WAPHome (http://www.waphome.co.za) - South Africa`s premier WAP Portal. "The easiest way to access the Computer Faire on WAP is to bookmark the WAPSite via WAPHome. Simply register an account for free and select it from the WAPSite Directory on the Internet," says Richard Him Lok, TranXactive`s Director of Internet Services and E-Commerce.

This year, computer technology will be joined by cellular as Convergence technology moves into the mainstream. The CellExpo Africa exhibition will be co-located with the Computer Faire 2000 in Hall 5b, where WAP technology is expected to feature heavily.
