Mobile computing has just become faster, lighter and more convenient with the release in SA of Acer`s ultraslim TravelMate 330 series mobile PCs.
Weighing in at a mere 1,8kg and with the dimensions of an A4 journal - it`s half as thick (23,5mm) as a conventional full-sized mobile PC - the new TravelMate 330 series is a unique combination of thinness, value and top performance.
"It`s ideal for on-the-move power users tired of shoulder-busting, bulky notebooks yet requiring a full-size keyboard and large, bright 12,1-inch display," says Acer Africa GM Brian Bogaard.

Despite its slim looks, the TravelMate 330 series is tough. It`s been "torture tested" to withstand the worst habits of mobile users. Quality tests include system on/off free-drop tests, weight pressure tests on all major points of the casing, and pinpoint coffee spill tests on the keyboard. TravelMate 330 mobile PCs also undergo rigorous open/close display panel hinge-life tests for durability.
And it will look good for years. The unique magnesium-alloy protective shell is lightweight, robust and rigid to withstand the scratch-and-bang requirements of mobile users as it`s 15 times stronger than commonly-used plastic casing materials.
"Adding to the convenience of the TravelMate 330 series is the EasyLink Combo Drive. This one-piece, hot-pluggable module containing a CD-ROM/floppy drive or DVD-ROM/floppy drive, can simply be plugged in to the side of the PC as required, leaving all other integrated I/O ports free without the need for a bulky docking bay or multiple cables. This gives mobile professionals enhanced flexibility with minimal weight," Bogaard says.
It also comes with a built-in international 56Kpbs V.90 fax modem, and a responsive touchpad with three buttons, including one Internet scrolling key.
