Malicious spyware has the ability to monitor a user's computing habits and private information, sending information to third parties without the user's knowledge. To most organisations, spyware is not only an invasion of privacy, but can also enable the theft of sensitive corporate data. Additionally, spyware can cause system instability, computer downtime, and unnecessary bandwidth usage.
In a recent U.S. survey conducted by TechRepublic.com, part of CNET Networks (March 2005), nearly 80% of respondents ranked spyware among the top 3 IT priorities for 2005, noting lowered computer performance as the greatest concern.
Trend Micro provides a unique multi-layered approach to the spyware problem through coordinated security at the gateway, server, and client. Trend Micro InterScan Web Security Suite blocks spyware from entering the network at the gateway, the first line of defense in the enterprise. InterScan Web Security can also block outbound "phone home" communications containing private information and can initiate a cleanup of impacted clients to eradicate any resident spyware. Trend Micro OfficeScan blocks unwanted spyware, adware, remote access tools, and hacking tools at the desktop as well. Administrators can easily customise Trend Micro's spyware detection and blocking based on their organisational security policies.
Trend Micro also offers Damage Cleanup Services to help automate the cleanup of spyware and the restoration of any server or desktop, whether any antivirus program is installed on them or not.
