With over a week to go to this year`s budget speech, taxpayers are again sending their input to the Treasury online.
Since the launch of the Treasury`s 'Tips for Trevor` campaign seven years ago, around 7 000 tips have been received through the online submission portal, says spokesperson Lindani Mbunyuza.
The campaign was launched in 1999 to give South Africans the opportunity to engage with finance minister Trevor Manuel and voice their suggestions on the national budget.
"The electronic campaign has been very successful and shows how many people have access to the Internet - it makes collating the tips easy, and the electronic feedback is immediate," she adds.
A further 4 000 tips have been received through other mediums - fax, phone and mail.
Mbunyuza believes the Web site has been a "critical" means of communication between citizens and the Treasury.
Some of the submissions to the minister included suggestions to be careful when applying sin taxes on alcohol and taxing fireworks more heavily.
Another submission asked: "Can you exempt Lobola money from individual tax? It`s a social responsibility put upon one`s shoulders unwillingly!"
