Triple-play takes off in China

China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television is driving the roll-out of triple-play service, reports APB News.

China's proposed triple-play service is a state-supported offer of voice telephony, Internet and TV services.

Over the next five years, telecoms and cable operators in China will be performing trials with the goal of deploying full-scale, converged commercial triple-play services in the country.

MS rolls out smart navigation

Microsoft has released Windows Embedded Automotive 7, the latest version of its software for infotainment systems in cars, states Detroit News.

The latest generation from Windows is designed to be easier to use with voice command, touch input, hands-free Bluetooth phone communications and access to music, navigation, apps and connecting with other devices from the car's dashboard.

"Consumers are increasingly demanding access to multimedia content, productivity solutions, and connected services for entertainment and communication from their in-vehicle system,” says Thilo Koslowski, Gartner VP of the Industry Advisory Service Manufacturing group.

Samsung unveils converged platform

Samsung is in the process of developing an integrated platform that can power both its TVs and mobile phones, says TMCnet.

Besides having better syncing capabilities between televisions and mobile phones, consumers could eventually see reduced prices on both products, the company says.

Analysts expect other companies to follow suit and take advantage of the new trend of device convergence.
