Tutuka.com, one of the premier Cold Fusion development resources in SA and Macromedia alliance partner, has used ColdFusion MX technology to assist The Wave House in modifying its booking and ticketing systems.
The Wave House is an international organisation, based in the US, that owns and runs water- and skate-based theme parks both there and in SA.
"Tutuka was briefed to develop an application which would effectively manage The Wave House`s booking and ticketing requirements," says Steven Ringo, CTO of Tutuka.com. "The company wanted to replace its system which was, basically, a modified accommodation booking system that had become inappropriate for this type of venue."
Jeremy Matthews, managing director of local Macromedia distributor Dax Data, says ColdFusion MX offered Tutuka and The Wave House exactly what they needed due to its rapid development time frame.
"ColdFusion MX offers interoperability with other technologies via its native WebServices functionality," he says. "Tutuka took full advantage of the technology, integrating it with a custom Delphi-based desktop browser and using its functionality to handle the specialised printing needs for report and wristband printing."
Tom Kruger, GM of The Wave House, says there were various other issues that needed to be addressed. "There was a notable lack of speed, an inaccessible proprietary database and a definite lack of facilities to customise the application and the new system."
The ColdFusion MX-based TicketExpress application had to meet complex functional requirements, and yet offer a simple, intuitive interface.
Ringo says the project took under six weeks to complete and now offers complete point-of-sale facilities, including the handling of over-the-counter transactions and receipts for facilities booked.
"The Wave House ColdFusion MX-based programme now incorporates time, availability and inventory management of rides and other items on sale as well as member registration management with the capacity to manage hundreds of thousands of members and associated information."
The printing of indemnity forms, receipts and waterproof wristbands, financial reporting and "Express" facilities that handle large numbers of bookings quickly, are now greatly simplified.
Rapid deployment, interoperability with other systems and the leveraging of Tutuka`s existing component and code base to handle common functions, eg security and rights management, made ColdFusion MX the platform of choice for this application, says Ringo.
