The FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader from Fujitsu Siemens Computers is a compact, extremely reliable and powerful solution for automated data backup and restore.
The device is based on the new VXA-320 tape drive and offers twice the capacity and transmission speed of its predecessor, the VXA-2 PacketLoader. As a rack product with a single height unit and 10 cartridge slots, the FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader saves a great deal of space and offers small and medium-sized enterprises or branches a high degree of reliability coupled with maximum performance.
"Secure data storage is vital to success for small and medium enterprises as well," says Rui de Oliveira, Product Manager Enterprise Computing at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Nevertheless, many such enterprises provide inadequate protection against data loss. With the FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader, which is geared specifically to the requirements of this market segment, SMEs are now in a position to save and restore their strategically important data in a professional manner. In addition to being extremely robust and offering a high performance level, the device is impressive in terms of ease of operation, automation and flexibility of maintenance - and all this at a reasonable price. The new FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader is therefore the ideal addition to our storage portfolio for SMEs, complementing products like the file and print server FibreCAT N20i and the NAS and iSCSI solution FibreCAT N40i."
Automatic backup with outstanding capacity and speed
The FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader has a maximum storage capacity of 3.2 Terabytes and a maximum transmission speed of 80 Gigabytes/hour, four times the values offered by devices based on DAT-72 (Digital Audio Tape) and DDS-5 (Digital Data Storage) technology. Similarly, the tapes can be rewritten and read up to 500 times, five times more often than with DAT systems.
As the FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader takes the individual cartridges from the corresponding slots and returns them on completion of backup fully automatically, it is no longer necessary to switch the cartridges manually. Automatic data backup can run unattended for up to 10 working days. The FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader thus eliminates error-prone processes and significantly reduces the time and costs involved in backup, a crucial advantage especially in times of tight resources.
The device incorporates a barcode reader to speed up the read process when restoring data and thus helps keep restore times to a minimum.
Compatibility with VXA-2 tapes
The FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader can not only read and write the tapes of the predecessor model, it can also format them. As a result, users working with VXA-2 tapes can enjoy the benefits of the new device without having to buy new tapes.
The FibreCAT TX10 PacketLoader will be available as of November 2005.
It can be integrated in a 19-inch standard rack in a single height unit, and is also available as a desktop version. In addition, the VXA-320 single drive can also be ordered as an optional internal storage component for Intel-based PRIMERGY servers or Solaris/SPARC-based PRIMEPOWER servers.
