Compaq has launched two new additions to its Presario desktop PC range - the Presario 7474 and 7477. Aimed at the home PC and SOHO markets, the new models offer an excellent price:performance ratio and are a complete "ready-to-use" computing solution.
Both units feature a 533MHz AMD K6-2(r) processor with 3DNow! Technology and 512KB integrated L2 cache. Coupled with 64MB of 100MHz SDRAM and integrated 2x AGP with 8MB 3D shared memory graphics and full motion MPEG-2 video playback, there is performance enough for everything from multimedia applications to games. Both units are also equipped with a Soundblaster-compatible ESS Allegro audio system, JBL Pro Speakers, JBL 3D VirtualTheater and Dolby Digital Surround Sound for a completely immersive audio experience.
Other features common to the two models include 8x DVD-ROM drive, 8GB hard drive, 56Kbps modem, Compaq Easy Access Internet Keyboard which features one-touch Internet access buttons, CD playback controls, pre-installed software (including Windows 98 SE, MS Word 2000, MS Works 2000, Media Ring, RingCentral Fax, and McAfee VirusScan. Both models also incorporate Compaq`s Creativity Action Centre which feature two USB ports located at the front of the case for the quick connection of USB cameras, scanners, gamepads, joysticks etc.
While the Presario 7474 comes complete with a 15" monitor, the 7477 incorporates a number of additional features such as a CD-RW with 4x write and 4x re-write, Easy CD Creator for effortless CD writing, 17".
