JSE-listed DigiCore Holdings has won a R12 million contract to fit tracking systems on the fleet of UK water service provider Thames Water.
DigiCore`s business is the use of technology to deliver information to its customers for management of mobile assets such as vehicles and cargo.
Thames Water issued the tender for fleet management tracking systems late last year and DigiCore says its C-track technology won the contract against a substantial international field.
The solution is to be installed by next month, for the first time allowing a single staff member to view and track the position of all vehicles on an electronic map. The project is set to reduce the time it takes to get to the scene of bursts, leaks and water-related work.
"The agreement is the biggest in the UK water industry and the largest of any business sector in Europe using the Vodafone GPRS infrastructure for data transmission," says DigiCore CEO Nick Vlok.
C-track uses satellite technology to show the location of each fleet vehicle to within a few meters, with information presented on a PC in real-time. Management reports and graphs for individual vehicles can also be produced.
