Facsimile transmission over wires was invented by Alexander Bain, a Scottish Mechanic, in 1843 and on 4 March 1955, the first radio facsimile transmission was sent across the continent. Since then the evolution of fax machines has rocketed and we now find ourselves in the era of fax servers.
Fax servers allow users on a LAN to send and receive faxes directly from their desktop or remotely via the Web. The application can assist in substantial cost savings, as well as increase productivity and enhance an organisation`s customer service and image.
Unison has taken this technology one step further and offers Galactrix Fax Server Billing. Fax Server Billing is more than just the costing of telephone calls. The application allocates all fax costs, including call costs, costs per pages sent and received and the time and duration of the call as per defined cost code tables, thus allowing for the management of these costs and exception reporting. Unison is the only company that offers this application and supports the Galactrix Fax Server Module and third-party fax servers.
The Fax Server Billing application runs off the Galactrix Central Directory, allowing calls to be allocated to the right cost centre via the user and not the extension. Due to this close integration with the Galactrix Directory, user information can also be incorporated with the relevant information needed to create accurate, meaningful reports. As a result, numerous detailed and summary reports are available on the standard Web interface, including some graphical user statistics.
The application is fully automated and therefore very easy to use. Multiple fax servers can be billed, whether they are sitting at remote or local locations and the fax application and network itself can be billed for by adding the facility to the list of fixed cost items associated with a user. The administrator is now able to manage these costs, as well as determine cost-effective times for sending expensive faxes and promotions.
