Unisys first to support Microsoft`s Datacenter High Availability Program

Johannesburg, 27 May 2003

Unisys has announced that it is the first information solutions provider to support the Microsoft Datacenter High Availability Program, which helps provide mainframe-class levels of reliability for enterprises that rely on critical information solutions.

Microsoft developed the Datacenter High Availability Program in close co-operation with Unisys, leveraging decades of Unisys experience in mission-critical support of large mainframe users.

The programme includes a range of services for enterprises that require uninterrupted availability of business-critical solutions. These services include certified and pre-tested configurations, new support centre options and Microsoft`s High Availability Resolution Queue.

Allan Currie, director of systems and technology at Unisys Africa, says: "The Microsoft Datacenter High Availability Program for Windows Server 2003, combined with Unisys ES7000 technologies, helps ensure that users of even the largest and most complex of Windows-based solutions will have uninterrupted access to critical business information.

"With Microsoft, we`ve simplified nearly every aspect of Windows 2003 Server Datacenter support, maximising reliability and availability, from certifying configurations to accessing fast technical support when needed."

The programme provides for customer support requirements to go in parallel to Microsoft and the platform supplier, ensuring fast resolution, regardless of which technology is responsible for an interruption.

Drawing on industry best practices for mission-critical support in high availability enterprise environments, Microsoft created a parallel support process that incorporates its High Availability Resolution Queue (HARQ).

This eliminates the need for customers to direct support requests to the specific vendor source of a problem. The HARQ features mainframe-class support, offering rigorous and comprehensive support procedures.

The programme also streamlines the process of certifying a complete configuration to ensure successful use of Windows 2003 Server, enabling customers to combine a range of products, knowing they will work together.

"High availability is a baseline requirement for achieving the productivity and economic advantages offered by Windows 2003 Server," says Bob Ellsworth, director, Windows Server Group, Microsoft. "The enhancements of the new programme draw on industry best practices developed through collaboration with Unisys, whose experience in the data centre prepares us to address demanding support requirements."
