Unisys supports EMC Symmetrix for enterprise environments

Johannesburg, 13 Feb 2003

Unisys Africa has announced that it will offer EMC`s Symmetrix DMX series, a modular and highly scalable storage system that promises to change the economics of high-end automated networked storage, for Unisys Enterprise Server ES7000 and ClearPath Plus servers.

The latest addition to the Symmetrix family, the Symmetrix DMX Series will feature the interconnected matrix infrastructure, a new point-to-point interconnect architecture that extends the performance, availability and flexibility of business and switch-based architectures. This architecture will help businesses to achieve the highest levels of performance and scalability for increased speed and accessibility to data.

"EMC is redefining the performance and economics of the high-end storage market," says Terry Richardson, EMC`s VP of Reseller Sales. "We have worked closely with Unisys for over a decade. Our combined technology provides large-scale enterprise Microsoft- and Intel-based computing environments with the most comprehensive, high availability solution available."

Suited for high-end server environments, the Symmetrix DMX series will serve as a high-performance storage backbone for ClearPath Plus and ES7000 server users. The DMX architecture will maximise the high input/output throughput characteristics of the ClearPath Plus server.

Through consolidation of server, storage and resources, Unisys can deliver substantial cost savings. The new Symmetrix DMX Series enhances the set of tools Unisys offers to consolidate server and storage resources for improved cost savings.

Part of a comprehensive suite of technologies for managing complex information environments, the EMC Symmetrix DMX series extends choice, control and confidence for Unisys ClearPath Plus and ES7000 users. EMC is introducing three models in the Symmetrix DMX Series, including the dual-bay DMX 2000, the single-bay DMX 1000 and a new modular DMX 800.

"As businesses increasingly take on larger data workloads, the need for reliable, compatible enterprise storage and server products becomes more relevant," says John Jordaan, Unisys EMC relationship manager. "The new Symmetrix DMX Series provides the high performance and reliability that Unisys customers require."
