Unisys has announced Business Continuance Services for planning, building and managing information solutions that maintain operations around the clock even when unanticipated events disrupt a technology infrastructure.
Designed for enterprise architectures based on Unisys servers and mainframes, the services suite includes recovery plan development and audit, along with architectural planning, design, implementation and support.
The importance of a sound business continuity policy is moving to the top of the list of priorities for organisations. Challenged by new competitors, the "anywhere, anytime" availability of services made possible by the Internet and the increasingly global nature of the marketplace, organisations are driven to serve customers around the clock.
At the same time, governments are mandating reliable continuity plans in key industries, including financial services, utilities and transportation, in which interrupted access to critical information can have a profound impact on the economy and public safety.
Community First Bankshares of Fargo, North Dakota, needed a business continuity solution to deliver on its mission of providing responsive service while retaining the feel of a neighbourhood bank. Critical to this approach is the ability to deliver around-the-clock service.
"September 11 forced us to rethink everything related to our business continuity plan," says Dan Fisher, president and CEO of Community First Technologies (CFTI), the company`s data processing and technology subsidiary. "Unisys spent a great deal of time understanding what our organisation needed. They came back with a solution that put us in control of our business continuity plan and gave us a tactical response to new strategic directions."
Key to the offering are data replication technologies from EMC, including its new SRDF/A high-performance extended-distance replication software, and EMC Snap space-saving replication software for high-end storage. These and other EMC replication technologies feature the ability to duplicate information for availability at a secondary standby processing location, ensuring that all data will be available to support continuous business operations in the event of a failure of primary production information systems.
"This suite of business continuity technologies and services draws on decades of Unisys` focus on specific industries with the highest requirements for absolute data availability," says Allan Currie, director of systems and technology at Unisys Africa. "It builds on our long and successful relationship with EMC, whose expertise in data replication, backup and recovery and protection from disaster has equipped it with the most complete set of hardware, software and services needed for sound business continuity planning."
