Unisys Corporation today announced that its subsidiary, Unisys de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., has received a five-year imaging and outsourcing services contract from Mexico`s Servicio de Administracion Tributaria (SAT), the tax and revenue branch of the Mexican government. The multi-million dollar solution and services contract will enable SAT to capitalize on the benefits of electronic business to manage operational costs and enhance services to taxpayers.
Unisys will integrate the Unisys e-@ction Business Process Solutions with advanced intelligent character recognition (ICR) and validation software to develop a comprehensive imaging system that can efficiently process almost 80 different types of tax forms. SAT staff will be able to access the completed forms quickly and easily via the Intranet. Unisys also will provide outsourcing services to capture, verify, store and manage all tax forms.
SAT was looking for a partner that would help improve tax-processing efficiency by eliminating unnecessary manual verification. By transforming the current system through Unisys advanced imaging solution and expanded outsourcing services, the agency estimates that it can reduce costs significantly - at the same time providing a higher level of service to the Mexican taxpayer.
Unisys will integrate the latest in technology and hardware, including: high-volume scanning stations, servers for image archive, ICR/ Optical Character Recognition (OCR) processing, and Imaging and e-Workflow. Unisys will also install verification stations around the country to help ensure accuracy of image files.
Unisys will manage the operation of tax form collection offices and will establish regional SAT processing centers across Mexico. All data will be stored at these SAT processing centers and will be made available to the taxing authorities through a secured intranet access.
"Our engagement at SAT is an excellent example of how Unisys is helping governments transition into an e-business environment and enhance services to citizens by providing world-class systems integration and outsourcing services as well as solutions based on best-of-breed technology," said Guido Camacho, general manager of Unisys de Mexico.
Delivery of the SAT system will begin immediately with full deployment of the advanced imaging system targeted for later this year.
