University gets Java training

Teachers from Mindanao State University will get free training in software development platforms like Java and Microsoft .Net, courtesy of an initiative of the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), says Inquirer.net.

PSIA recently signed a memorandum of agreement with MSU to become a pilot site for this teacher-training programme, according to PSIA president Beng Coronel.

MSU also received funding from Commission on Higher Education to pursue training courses for its instructors, added Coronel.

PDFTron supports Java

PDFTron Systems has released a new major version (v.4) of PDFNet SDK, says Huliq.com.

With version 4.0 of PDFNet SDK, PDFTron expands its development platform offering by adding Java support to the PDF library.

The new Java interface exposes the underlying API as a set of Java classes to enable developers to integrate PDFTron's PDFNet API into their Java applications.

Sun releases its Spots

Sun Microsystems released its Sun Spot platform under the open source GPL v2 licence. Sun Spots are general purpose programmable devices built and controlled largely with Java technology, says InfoQ.

In addition to the transition of the platform to open source, Sun is also offering discounts for educational institutions for individual and bulk purchases.

Sun Spot technology is being adapted by the community for a number of purposes. Bruce Hopkins has written a Sun Mobility Tech Tip on utilising Sun Spots for ultra-low communication.
