Hitachi has launched its latest storage subsystem - the Thunder 9200. Unlike the Hitachi Lightning family aimed at the mid- to high-end storage market, the 9200 caters for the storage requirements of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The subsystem features full fibre channel connectivity, and can scale from 72GB to 7.2TB. It offers two to four times the bandwidth of the Freedom 5800, Hitachi`s previous SME offering.
Logical unit security caters for deployment in storage area network (SAN) environments, and multiple level RAID support and remote and snapshot copying helps secure the data. The 9200 can also be deployed in a network-attached storage capacity.
The architecture of the 9200 - scaled down from the Lightning 9900 series - allows for online upgrades, including microcode installations and hot-swappable components. The system features remote monitoring capabilities, which will allow fault diagnosis from the reseller`s site.
Hitachi is distributed locally by Shoden Data Systems.
