Uptime adds ProCurve

Uptime Distribution has signed an agreement with LAN vendor ProCurve Networking by HP in Australia and Fiji, says CRN.

Uptime Distribution will add ProCurve's 3500, 5400 and 8200 gigabit Ethernet switch products to its distribution portfolio.

Uptime will also have access to enterprise networking technologies designed to complement unified communications solutions.

Cisco invests in UAE

John Chambers, Cisco chairman and CEO, announced a plan to invest up to AED5.8 billion (USD$1.59 billion) on ICT in the United Arab Emirates over the next five years, states CNN.

The investment intends to support the 2015 vision of his highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, VP and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, to fuel the nation's growth and development plans.

Paul Mountford, president of emerging markets at Cisco, said: "This investment demonstrates our continued, long-term commitment to the UAE. The vision of the country's leadership has allowed it to transition quickly to a 'connected' world. We look forward to continued collaboration working closely with the government to help support and realise the nation's ambitious development and growth vision."

Arbor to acquire Ellacoya

vendor Arbor Networks is to acquire Ellacoya Networks, a provider of broadband optimisation products in Merrimack, reports Computerworld.

The acquisition allows Arbor to take advantage of an increased focus on traffic and service management by broadband providers.

Arbor's products are aimed at protecting service provider networks from security threats such as denial-of-service attacks, botnets and worms.
