US climate change bill disappoints
The long-awaited latest draft of the US energy and climate change bill has been received with scepticism, reports Energy Efficiency News.
The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy says the proposal does much less for energy efficiency than previous major climate change bills.
The American Power Act would commit the US to cutting carbon emissions by 17% on 2005 levels by 2020, with subsequent targets of 42% by 2030 and 83% by 2050.
Govt sets consolidation goals
The US federal government is boosting its data centre consolidation efforts as it makes significant gains in energy efficiency, states Information Week.
The number of federal data centres has more than doubled to more than 1 100 in the past decade, and many agencies spend a significant amount of time and effort on infrastructure spending, some of it wasted.
To cut energy costs, the US government has increased server virtualisation four-fold by increasing the number of virtual machines per hosts and investing in cloud computing.
Asus unveils green monitor
Asus has rolled out its most energy efficient monitor called the Designo MS228H, says The Daily Star.
It has been designed to achieve 45% higher power savings and 30% lower carbon dioxide emissions.
The monitor supports full 1080 high-definition image resolution, quick response time and colour optimisation using Asus Splendid Video Intelligence Technology.
