US favours cellphones in gadgetry

Pew Research released a report from its and American Life Project showing that the cellphone is now a favourite gadget for Americans, states The New York Times

The report, which was conducted by surveying over 3 000 American adults, compiled a list of the 'seven key appliances of the information age'. The gadgets include cellphones, desktop and laptop computers, e-readers, MP3 players and game consoles.

Aaron Smith, a research specialist on the project, wrote in a blog post that researchers found 85% of Americans over the age of 18 own a mobile phone, and that a “staggering” 96% of Americans aged 18 to 29 “own a cellphone of some kind.”

Lenovo looks into the tablet market

Lenovo has plans to release an enterprise line of tablet PCs based on the ThinkPad product line, states Good-e-Reader.

Recent developments indicate that executives from Lenovo have revealed their intentions to pursue the enterprise market, similar to Cisco and their Cius Tablet and their upcoming product line.

Other companies are also about to enter the enterprise area of tablets such as Samsung in partnership with Pyxis, as well as the upcoming Windows 7 slate by HP.

Sony Ericsson releases X8 smartphone

Sony Ericsson last week unveiled its new smartphone that comes preloaded with applications, including an anti-theft software, writes ABS-CBN News.

Sony Ericsson general manager Dennis Manzano says the Sony Ericsson X8 takes with it the best experiences from the X10 and brings the Xperia line to a more affordable price range.

“The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is a great entertainment smartphone. [It] sits in the mid-level of our overall portfolio and contributes to Sony Ericsson's objective to extend the Xperia collection of entertaining smartphones to a broader audience by offering an affordable option that combines a compact size with style and performance,” says Manzano.
