US to maintain Net control
An agreement has been signed which allows the US government to retain control of the Internet until 2011, Beta News reports.
According to the report, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers and the US Department of Commerce signed the agreement amid arguments from the United Nations and the International Telecommunications Union that the US must cede at least some control over the Internet.
The International Telecommunications Commission said last year that the UN was ready to take control of the Net.
Surfers can remain anonymous
A file sharing service allowing users to remain anonymous by hiding their IP addresses has been unveiled in Sweden, says BBC News.
The service, Relakks, allows users to send and receive files through a heavily-encrypted connection, the report says.
Users are assigned a Swedish IP address, no matter where they are in the world.
IP phones show growth
The sale of IP phones has grown globally by 30.4% year-on-year and 13.7% from the first to the second quarter of 2006, says eWeek.
The article is based on a report by the Synergy Research Group, which looked at the worldwide market for enterprise IP telephony equipment.
Worldwide revenue for enterprise IP telephony, which includes LAN telephony, pure IP telephony, the converged market and IP phones, approached $1.2 billion, it says.
