US Open goes green

IBM and the United States Tennis Association have teamed up to run a more environmentally-friendly 2008 US Open, reports CNN Money.

IBM is helping to reduce the energy consumption required to power the tournament's Web site and scoring operations, reducing energy consumption by 23%.

New solutions for the 2008 US Open that IBM is putting into place include implementing Power 550 servers running Linux with new Power6, the world's fastest microprocessor technology, as well as virtualisation and systems management technologies.

Taiwan kicks off innovation

China and India, the two rising economies in Asia Pacific, have contributed considerably in recent years to stimulate the overall demand for semiconductor and electronic products, says EE Times Asia.

The technology boom, advancement of embedded design, rise of green consciousness and the maturity of the process of miniaturised components, all converge to drive the innovation of design, from upstream semiconductors to downstream electronic products.

Leading technology companies from all over the world will showcase their most advanced innovative technologies, from clean energy technology and mobile handhelds to the new generation of automotive electronic products at the International IC Taiwan Conference and Exhibition.
